For Laypersons: AHA HeartSaver CPR/AED  |  AAOS First Responder-First Aid  |  AAOS Advanced Medical Training

For Healthcare Providers:  AHA Healthcare Provider CPR/AED

All Courses are taught by Illinois licensed medical professionals.

Class sizes are limited and pre-registration and payment are required in advance.

Class locations, date and time, and cost will be announced at the time of posting on the Training calendar.

HeartSaver CPR/AED
 
Prerequisite: None.

Test: None required for completion card.

The AHA HeartSaver AED /CPR Class is recommended for any non-healthcare provider and teaches lay rescuers how to recognize and treat life-threatening emergencies, including cardiac arrest and choking for adult, child, and infant victims. Extensive practice on mannequins is covered in this video led course.

Who this class is for: All lay rescuers, such as employees in the workplace, daycare employees, babysitters, firefighters, police, airline personnel, security guards, camp counselors, bus drivers, life-guards, family members of patients at high risk for sudden cardiac death, or anyone who can’t stand the thought of watching a loved one in distress and not knowing what to do.

Length of Class: 3 – 3.5 hours (depends on number of students).

AAOS First Responder – First Aid

 

Prerequisite: It is recommended, but not required, to take a CPR class prior to or in conjunction with taking this class.

Test: None required for completion card.

Video and lecture based training includes recognition and treatment of seizures, bleeding and shock, wounds, burns, head and spine injuries, joint and muscle injuries, sudden illnesses (fainting, diabetic emergencies), poisoning, cold and heat related emergencies.  Focus is on recognition, scene safety and control, contacting emergency resources and providing First-Aid prior to the arrival of Emergency resources.

Who this class is for: All lay rescuers, such as employees in the workplace, daycare employees, babysitters, firefighters, police, airline personnel, security guards, other lay rescuers, and those who may have a need to respond to an emergency (all of us!).

Length of Class:  3 hours

AAOS Advanced Medical Training
 
Prerequisite: American Heart Association current CPR / AED / First Aid.

Test: None required for completion card.

Students will be introduced to a thorough standardized assessment protocol, administration and advanced injury management skills. The courses are student oriented with lots of hands-on scenarios, skills stations and realistic practical sessions to maximize relevance. The MFR course is suitable for those looking to establish on-site response teams, which can better handle traumatic injuries, work in remote environments, or where the risk of injury is more significant and for individuals looking to prepare themselves for emergency service careers.

Who this class is for: All who are interested in taking a more active role in emergency situations, building on existing standard first aid foundation skills.

Healthcare Provider CPR/AED
 
Prerequisite: None.

Test: A test and skill demonstration is required for completion card.

The HealthCare Provider Course is designed to teach the skills of CPR for victims of all ages including recognizing and treating life-threatening emergencies, including cardiac arrest and choking for adult, child, and infant victims (including ventilation with a barrier device, a bag-mask device, and oxygen) as well as the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).  It is intended for participants who provide health care to patients in a wide variety of settings, including in-hospital and out-of-hospital.

Who this class is for: Healthcare providers such as physicians, nurses, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, physician’s assistants, residents or medical nursing students in training, aides, medical or nursing assistants, and other allied health personnel.

Length of Class: Approximately 3.5 hours.
